Electrography

2012-2022

Medium: Darkroom Photography
Size: 18×24

This project is part of my continued investigation of the electricity research interest.

My career as a multimedia artist is built upon the concept of capturing the beauty of electricity through exposing organic materials on paper. This portfolio showcases the luminescence of electricity and its connection to life itself. The water networks in plants, known as xylem, emit a light that is captured on paper, creating a symbiotic relationship between life and the artwork.

In cellular automata, the behavior of an overall system is determined by the interactions of many simple, individual components, or “cells”. These cells follow simple rules to determine their behavior, and the collective behavior of all the cells gives rise to complex patterns and phenomena.

Similarly, in electricity, the behavior of an electrical circuit is determined by the interactions of many individual electrons. Electrons move through the circuit following the rules of electromagnetic physics, and their collective behavior results in the flow of electric current.

So, in a sense, electricity can be seen as an example of cellular automata, with the individual electrons as the cells and their interactions as the rules that determine the overall behavior of the system. However, it’s important to note that electricity is a more physical phenomenon than a mathematical one, and the comparison to cellular automata is more of a conceptual analogy than a direct equivalence.

With over 44 exhibitions worldwide, including prestigious venues such as the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC and A.I.R Gallery in Brooklyn, NY, my body of work has received numerous accolades and awards, including honorable mentions and an Award of Excellence.

This body of work has fueled my passion for the intersection of art and science. I am committed to exploring this connection through a groundbreaking research framework that delves into the mysteries of the universe by decoding the signs, symbols, and glyphs from ancient history.

The universal mystery associated with this artwork is the life-force that lives through all of us being illuminated and captured by the photographic paper.
